A Day in the Country Sale and The Greensville Antique Show and Sale

I am coming out of blogging lethargy to post about two great sales my friend, Cynthia, and I attended yesterday. 

The first show of the day is called A Day in the Country Sale hosted by Kim Davies of Tattered and Torn.

Such a feast for the eye to see so many wonderful items beautifully displayed. The photographs above are from the booths of various dealers including The Primitive Heart,  The Eclectic Pelican and Tattered and Torn.

After purchasing a few lace treasures here, we made our way to The Greensville Antique Show and Sale a few miles away. This show presented another feast of textiles, buttons, clothing and related items. It seemed to be the day to find great bits of handmade lace pieces and we both scored some nice bits.

 
To cap off the hunt for antiques, we made our way to Taylor’s Tea Room in Dundas, Ontario for lunch. Highly recommended!

We were back home mid-afternoon tired but happy!

Shoe Styles

 
When I saw these shoes on the Metro in Paris, it got me noticing men’s shoe styles everywhere I went. The photo is a bit blurry, but I had to pretend I was just browsing through the photographs on my camera when I took the shot.

Don’t you find the blue shoelaces fascinating? I was even more mesmerized when the wearer turned and I got a peek at his socks- they were the same shade of electric blue as the laces! 

Here’s a very spiffy pair in a shoestore -

 

 

I couldn’t see anything wrong with these ones besides the missing laces but they were discarded on a Paris street!!

Large Button Cuff Bracelet

I started sewing some black and gold buttons from my stash
onto a wide elastic band and realized I would never wear a
bracelet this wide and flashy.  So I’ll be taking it apart and
doing up a narrower one, once I get some thinner elastic.

The Charm House - What I Collect

Today, I'm posting one of my collections to join The Charm House's party. I buy and sell vintage items and have sold a number of thimbles over the years but couldn't bring myself to part with these ones. Look at that cute little one!

I'm not the only collector in our house

Just in case you thought I was the only one with the 'collecting gene' in our household, let me enlighten you. We all love 'stuff'. Sometimes we love the same stuff and sometimes we don't, but we each seem to have the knack for accumulating, amassing, hoarding and finding things that make our hearts sing but which also fill up every possible nook in our home. Today, I'm showing you one of my husband's collections. For today, here are the robots - they do look cute, don't they, all lined up as though on guard, maybe on guard in case real space creatures show up. Stay tuned for some more vintage 'guy' stuff - vintage radios and army Dinky toys.

Some pics from my Collections

I love these metal souvenir pincushions. They satisfy my desire for shoes and for old sewing items. I also like to collect things made of metal because there's less chance that I'll break them. I bought a bunch of glass slippers once at an auction but didn't keep them. I just didn't get the same pleasure from looking at them.

And here are some of my thimbles. I'm so happy to have figured out the macro setting on my camera. Now, I can get in close with these little items.

And here are some of my lacey bits that I've collected over the past few years. I buy and sell
vintage items at shows and fairs but I just can't part with some of these pretty pieces.
